Wandering and wondering

At around 5:45 this morning I was wandering around my apartment when I started wondering if the morning paper had come yet.  It usually comes between 5 a.m. and 5:30.  Opening the front door, I found the paper wasn’t there.  I thought, Must be running late.  Then I remembered, Hey!  Today is Labor Day; the paper doesn’t publish on Labor Day.

Happy Labor Day everyone.

Music–“Neanderthal Man”–Hot Legs

Reading–“Harrison Bergeron”–Kurt Vonnegut (from WELCOME TO THE MONKEY HOUSE)

Bach + Soul = a Pop Music classic

I remember the Toys “A Lover’s Concerto” from waaaay back.  Of course, I was a wee Dougster back then, and didn’t know J.S. Bach from Paul McCartney.  I loved it back then, and still do.

It wasn’t until the ’80s that I discovered that this song was based on a classic melody originally considered to be from J.S. Bach.  Now it’s usually credited to Christian Petzgold.

More information about “A Lover’s Concerto” can be found on the Internet.  Here’s the Wikipedia entry:

“Edge of the Universe”

Sunday morning I listened to AMERICAN TOP 40–THE 70S.  This time it featured the Top 40 from August 27,1977.  One of the songs played was this one from the Bee Gees.

This wasn’t one of the Bee Gees’ biggest hits; it only hit #26 on the BILLBOARD Hot 100.  It’s mostly forgotten now, since a few months later the Bee Gees would become the biggest pop music group since the Beatles.  But I love this song.

I’m starting to color again.  I did it for a little while a few years ago.  But I’m doing it again.  It’s fun deciding which colors to put in where.  Not to mention I can post the colored pages on social media, as I’m doing now.

And it gives me something to do.

Book–HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, J.K. Rowling.

Music–“Pressure Drop”–Toots and the Maytals.

Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Respect for human life is disintegrating. Human beings just want what they want, and if something or somebody gets in the way, screw that something or somebody. If somebody’s opinion doesn’t agree with your, screw that somebody. If kids are starving, screw them. If people are of another race, religion, or ethnicity, screw them. We’ll do just what we want to do. If we want to shoot somebody, we do it. Fuck that somebody. We’re just a bunch of selfish slugs.
